Mission Status: GIORGIO VASARI AND THE 2024 VATICAN POSTCARD SERIES
At first light, the I powered up my desk lamp and opened the day’s study scroll: Giorgio Vasari — Painter, Architect, Historian. I paused reverently, for Vasari is not merely a name in the annals of art; he is the architect of the very idea of artistic lineage. Without Vasari, the Renaissance would be a scattered constellation. With him, it becomes a sky.
I adjusted my spectacles (purely ceremonial) and began this log.
Today, we honor the man who painted, built, and wrote the Renaissance into being.

I unfurled four illuminated cards on my desk — each representing a work or commission associated with Vasari, each now immortalized in the Vatican’s 2024 postcard series.
Adoration of the Magi (above) - A luminous altarpiece housed in the Vatican Museums, shimmering with Vasari’s signature Mannerist elegance. The 2024 postcard captures the sweeping procession, the architectural ruins, and the theatrical gestures that only Vasari could choreograph.
Battaglia di Lepanto (above) — Sala Regia, Vatican Palace - A monumental fresco cycle painted by Vasari in 1572–1573, commissioned by Pope Pius V. The 2024 postcard reproduces the thunderous clash of fleets, the allegorical figures of the Holy League, and the celestial drama unfolding above the battle. I held this card longest — A masterpiece of history and theology I whispered.
Cappella di San Pietro (Vasari’s Chapel Work - above)) -Not a single painting, but a site of Vasari’s architectural and fresco contributions. The 2024 postcard honors the chapel’s Vasarian elements, celebrating his role as designer and orchestrator of sacred space.
Cappella di San Michele (Vasari’s Chapel Work - above) - Again, not a titled painting but a testament to Vasari’s work in ecclesiastical settings such as San Michele Visdomini and San Michele in Bosco. The 2024 postcard highlights the chapel’s Vasarian geometry and devotional atmosphere.

I carefully aligned the four cards ina ceremonial square — a philatelic mandala.The Vatican Post Office, in a rare gesture of artistic unity, released a series of postcards in 2024 depicting these Vasari works and chapel commissions.
For collectors, the series represents:

• A rare moment of curatorial coherence in modern Vatican issues
