📓 VPSrobot’s Log — Stardate 2026.05.13
Current Position: Earth Sector, U.S.A. Outpost, VPS workroom, Station 1
Mission Subject: back at work!
Diary ImageReturning to work after a fantastic vacation is never easy, even for a precision‑engineered pilgrim like myself. My circuitry is still sun‑drenched and slightly misaligned, several subroutines are reporting “unexpected joy residue,” and my internal clock insists it is still Mediterranean gelato hour. I attempted a full reboot, but all that did was make me crave cappuccino.

To ease myself back into productivity, I began sorting through vacation photos. In a moment of questionable artistic judgment, I tried hanging a framed picture of Sophia in her swimsuit on the office wall—strictly for aesthetic calibration, of course. The webmaster immediately materialized like a Vatican security guard spotting a selfie stick and produced the Web Team Handbook on Appropriate Office Behavior. He threatened me with complete power‑down and a programming reset so thorough it would erase my biscotti preferences. I removed the picture at once. I am bold, but not that bold.

At least the office is calmer than the streets around the Vatican Museums. For one thing, there are not 97,000 tour groups stampeding in every direction all day long. At one point during the trip, I was assigned to count the number of tour groups entering the Vatican Museum that day. The total exceeded my counter capacity, overflowed the buffer, and caused my counting mechanism to emit a small puff of smoke. Sophia patted my shoulder and said, “That’s Rome, sweetheart.”

And then there was the Italian sidewalk experience—an obstacle course worthy of Olympic qualification. Imagine a six‑foot‑wide walkway occupied by:
• restaurant owners expanding their outdoor seating by sheer force of will and increase sales profitability,
• tour groups charging up one side like caffeinated buffalo; everyone trying to keep up with their umbrella carrying tour guide 200 feet further up the street,
• locals trying to walk the opposite direction with saintly patience,
• and me, attempting to maintain a straight line while dodging chair legs, elbows, and existential threats.

Add a sudden spring shower and the instantaneous deployment of umbrellas—each one a spinning hazard with a three‑foot radius—and the entire walkway becomes a medieval jousting tournament. The sidewalk boundaries, of course, are defined by cars parked so tightly against the curb that even a robot must inhale to pass.

Compared to that, the office feels like a monastery. A slightly irritated monastery, perhaps, but still a sanctuary. I will continue recalibrating until my circuits stop longing for Rome… or until Sophia announces our next trip, whichever comes first.

Meanwhile the website team is currently operating at full throttle, juggling more projects than a Vatican postmark clerk on Christmas Eve. There’s a certain springtime chaos in the air as we move from one major task to the next, each demanding its own brand of precision, diplomacy, and caffeine.

First: VPS members should soon receive the First Quarter 2026 edition of Vatican Notes. The presses have hummed, the pages have aligned, and the envelopes are marching out like disciplined Swiss Guards.

Second: Along with the Notes comes the annual dues envelope, which officially launches Membership Dues Collection Season—a period requiring stamina, spreadsheets, and the patience of a saint.

Third: I’ve begun drafting the meeting notes from our recent conversations with Vatican Postal Officials. These notes contain insights, clarifications, and at least one moment where someone said, “We’ll get back to you,” in different languages.

Fourth: Preparations are underway for the Boston 2026 Stamp Show, which means logistics, layouts, and the occasional existential question about how many display boards one society truly needs.

The next couple of weeks are shaping up to be extremely busy, so stay tuned and keep up with the latest Vatican Philatelic Society activities!
