Mission Subject: What Is A Good Way Of Presenting Vatican Folders In Your Stamp Collection?
The Vatican folders are very nice and they usually have one or more special postmarked stamp covers inside, with some nifty writing on the back side.(See the 2026 Easter Folder picture below.) However, let's face it most US stamp collectors are bound to the 8.5 x 11 inch notebook page format. So what is a good way of presenting these folders in your stamp collection?
Sorry, I'm not sure. I usually simply make a separate album page for the cover(s) that came with a folder then slide it into a 8.5 x 11 inch plastic sleave and put both in my notebook. Flipping though the notebook the viewer then sees the covers on the album page and the unopened folder in a plastic sleeve. To view the center of the folder it has to be removed from the plastic sleeve. Probably not the best solution, but that is what I have come up with.
Does someone have a better idea? If so please share your idea or procedure using the VPS contact link or post you idea in the VPS Chat Room on the VPS website at www.vaticanstamps.org. I would like to hear of some other ideas about mounting Vatican postal covers.
One other point of information about Vatican postal folders topic that was discussed in our recent meeting on May 5th with the Vatican postal folks. Don Bruno, head of the Vatican Post Office, shared some information. He stated that future hopes are to add a QR code to the back of the Vatican postal folders. This would allow a short informational article about the folder stamp issue to be published by the Vatican Post Office. This is a nice idea and good use of technology for those of us technically competent enough to use QR codes. (By the way, my QR code usage isn't very good, so this is something I'll have to update myself on!).
Is there a date for QR code usage? No, the idea is being explored with no date announcement available, but using QR code technology sounds like a neat idea!
