Mission Subject: Where Is My Postcard?
The postcard shown above was purchased at the Vatican Post Office in St. Peter’s Square on the afternoon of May 4th 2026. It is not listed for sale to philatelic collectors by the CFN. The Vatican regularly offers a separate selection of postcards at its retail sales counters—items that are never included among the philatelic listings published by the CFN. Postcards listed for sale to philatelic collectors by the CFN are not sold by the Vatican Post Office at its retail sales counters.
The postcard was mailed the following day, May 5th, from one of the yellow collection boxes located less than twenty feet from the entrance to the Vatican City Central Post Office. The steps of the Vatican City Central Post Office are seen on the left side of the picture above.It arrived at Lou's house in Quincy MA on June 9th!
Shown above is the postcard’s stamp and postmark. Notice the postmark date — May 19, 2026! That’s a full two weeks after the May 5th mailing date, an astonishing delay for a card dropped just steps from the Vatican’s Central Post Office.Well, Lou eventually received his postcard! I’m still waiting for mine (see updated delivery times below) — mailed at the very same time, on the same date, in the very same mailbox, at the Vatican Central Post Office. And, for an extra twist, I’m also still waiting for the postcard I mailed from the Vatican Central Post Office back in 2024. The Vatican mail system truly works in mysterious ways indeed.
