Mission: Study on Our Lady of Guadalupe

On this day in 1531, the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, a humble Nahua convert, on the hill of Tepeyac Mexico. She spoke in his native tongue, Nahuatl, and called herself “Coatlaxopeuh”—interpreted by some as “she who crushes the serpent.” Her request: a temple built in her honor, a place of refuge and compassion.
When Juan Diego presented winter roses to Bishop Zumárraga as proof, her image appeared on his tilma—an imprint untouched by time, woven into the fabric of faith and identity. The cloak still hangs in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, visited by millions each year.
Ten commemorative reflections:
•🌹 Rosae in hieme: The miracle of out-of-season roses.
•🧥 Imago in Tilma: The image that defies decay.
•🕊️ Lingua Nahuatl: She spoke to Juan Diego in his heart’s language.
•🌎 Patrona Americae: Declared Patroness of the Americas.
•📖 Evangelium per imaginem: Millions converted through her message.
•🕯️ Templum in Tepeyac: A basilica born of faith and flowers.
•🎨 Symbola indigena: Stars, moon, and colors rich in native meaning.
•🇲🇽 Unitas Mexicana: A symbol of justice and national identity.
•🛡️ Protego humiles: Defender of the poor and unborn.
•✨ Miraculum permanens: A tilma that science cannot explain.
Closing Reflection:
“Non fecit taliter omni nationi.”
She did not act thus for every nation—yet for Mexico, she came as mother, queen, and bridge between worlds.
